According to sources, the Delhi Police has directed ADCP Sandeep Lamba to return to his original posting following the circulation of the video. The decision was reportedly conveyed a day after the footage went viral. Sandeep Lamba, an officer of the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS), has remained at the center of public attention since the protest-related video surfaced.
The Parliament March organized by the Cockroach Janata Party witnessed the participation of a large number of students. Police personnel and security forces used baton charges to prevent the demonstrators from advancing toward Parliament. During the operation, the viral video allegedly captured ADCP Lamba striking a woman protester who was standing to one side and was not seen engaging in any apparent confrontation.
The incident also became the subject of legal proceedings. During a hearing in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan raised concerns over the police action carried out on July 20. Addressing the court, he referred to the viral footage and stated that the officer identified by the name badge as ADCP Sandeep Lamba appeared to be slapping a woman who was merely standing aside and was not doing anything. He urged the court to summon ADCP Lamba and require him to explain his actions.
The video has generated widespread public anger on social media, intensifying debate over the conduct of law enforcement during public demonstrations. The reported administrative action against ADCP Sandeep Lamba and the issue being raised before the Delhi High Court have further elevated the significance of the incident, keeping the police response to the CJP Parliament March under close public and legal scrutiny.
